/PRNewswire/ -- Special Olympics of Georgia (SOGA) will host its annual State Summer Games for more than 2,000 athletes and coaches May 20-22 at Emory University.
Athletes will compete in aquatics, flag football, athletics, soccer, badminton, volleyball, tennis, gymnastics, and table tennis, with medals awarded throughout.
"It is great to see the athletes have the perfect opportunity to shine at Summer Games. The athletes have worked very hard leading up to this weekend and will be so excited," said SOGA CEO Georgia Milton-Sheats.
Friday morning, a Law Enforcement Torch Run press conference will be held outside the State Capitol steps at 9:30 a.m. Elected officials and law enforcement officers have been invited. Law enforcement officers from agencies all over the state have teamed up with SOGA in a 1,000-mile torch relay across the state leading up to the State Summer Games. The "Flame of Hope" will light the cauldron at Opening Ceremony to signify the opening of the games.
Opening Ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Emory's McDonough Field. The parade of athletes will be led by Grand Marshal Mattias Schnorf, Defender for the Atlanta Silverbacks, and will be escorted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers from across the state.
The games are free and open to the public. Parking is free at Peavine Parking deck.

Clayton State Athletic Summer Camps Begin June 2
Clayton State University’s annual Athletic Summer Camps are set to begin on Monday, June 2.
Running between June 2 and Aug. 3, Clayton State will be offering summer camps for boys and girls, ages six to 17, in basketball, soccer, tennis, speed and, for the first time, cheerleading. In addition to day camps for each of the individual sports, there will also be combination day camps for soccer and basketball, tennis and soccer, tennis and speed, tennis and basketball and soccer and speed. All of the camps are under the instruction of Clayton State varsity coaches.
There will also be a special all-day All Sports Camp from June 2 to June 6 that will provide students ages six to 14 with the basics of basketball, soccer, speed development and tennis. This camp is designed for campers who are just discovering sports or who may not have mastered sports disciplines.
