Thrashers Activate Defenseman Zach Bogosian from Injured Reserve; Place Defenseman Garnet Exelby on Injured Reserve

The Atlanta Thrashers have activated defenseman Zach Bogosian from the Injured Reserve list and have placed defenseman Garnet Exelby on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Dec. 17, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Bogosian, 18, has missed Atlanta’s last 25 games after suffering a fractured fibula on Oct. 28 vs. the Philadelphia Flyers. The 6-2, 215-pound defenseman appeared in eight games with the Thrashers prior to his injury, recording 13 penalty minutes and averaging 12:33 of ice time.

The Massena, N.Y. native, who was selected by the Thrashers in the first round, third overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, appeared in 127 career games with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-08, recording 94 points (18 goals, 76 assists). In 2007-08, Bogosian was the only OHL defenseman to lead his team in points with 61 (11 goals, 50 assists).

Exelby, 27, has recorded four assists and 49 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Thrashers this season. The 6-1, 215-pound defenseman recorded two assists in a span of three games from Dec. 2-6.

The Ste. Anne, Manitoba native has appeared in 328 career NHL games, all with Atlanta, and recorded 43 points (six goals, 37 assists) along with 440 penalty minutes.
