New Archery Range Available at Flat Creek Public Fishing Area

A new archery range is open in middle Georgia at the Flat Creek Public Fishing Area, announces the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. 

“Public shooting ranges are popular with hunters and recreational shooting sports enthusiasts,” says Division Shooting Sports Coordinator Jennifer Pittman.  “We were eager to add a range to this public fishing area as soon as it opened in 2009 – and thanks to great cooperative efforts, we are now able to make it available to the public.”

Construction for the range began in September of this year, with final completion accomplished later that month.  The range was built using Wildlife Restoration funds, with money coming from sportsmen through their purchases of firearms, archery equipment and ammunition.

The range offers a static area that includes both bullseye and 3-D targets from 10-50 yards.  There are additional 3-D targets, at varying distances, available along a walking trail. The range is open every day during daylight hours.

Clayton State to Hold “Laker Madness” on October 14

“Laker Madness,” the introduction of the 2010/2011 Clayton State University Laker basketball teams, will be held at the University’s Athletics & Fitness Center on Thursday, Oct. 14, starting at 10 p.m.

The event is free and open to the general public and will feature highlights from last season as people are entering the gym.

The program will start with student three-point and dunk contests, followed by a routine by the Clayton State cheerleaders.

Next, the Clayton State women’s team will be introduced, followed by a 15 minute scrimmage. Coach Dennis Cox will then speak to the crowd about what is coming up for the 2010/2011 season.

The team introductions, scrimmage and a talk by men's coach Gordon Gibbons will follow the women's session.

The entire program should take about 90 minutes.

A unit of the University System of Georgia, Clayton State University is an outstanding comprehensive metropolitan university located 15 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.

NFL Players Association Announces Partnership with RisingSeniors.com

NFLPA tailors Training Camp for Life, a character and skills development program for the Inaugural Georgia Junior Bowl Game

The top junior high school football players in Georgia will get treated like the NFL’s best when they attend the first RisingSeniors.com event in Atlanta, January 4 to8, 2011. The unique five-day summit has an unprecedented format which concentrates on the overall education and development of these young athletes rather than just the game. The culminating contest known as The Georgia Junior Bowl will feature the best juniors in the state at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the campus of Georgia Tech. The game is but a fraction of the programming compared to the rest of the action packed week of events slated for the young student athletes. In compliance with the NCAA, the programs will be run just like the NFL’s Rookie Symposium to focus on key issues that deal with character and life skills development. The program was designed to assist the young men with the challenges which lie ahead as they will attend workshops on NCAA compliance, ACT and SAT test prep, drug-free sports, social media training, alternate careers in sports and choices and consequences. There will also be a special session on giving back to the community presented by Danny Wurfel, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Legend.

“It is imperative we educate these student-athletes on the life skills required to be prepared for the college transition and life after football,” said Willis Whalen, NFLPA Manager of Player Services and Development and Training Camp for Life creator. “The Georgia Junior Bowl provides Training Camp for Life with the unique platform to reach a key audience. We hope to provide these juniors with the tools that they need to be successful both on and off the field.”

The McGladrey Classic Welcomes Active and Retired Military

Eight Winners of Golf's Majors to Play in McGladrey Classic

/PRNewswire/ -- Unarguably, golf's Majors – the Masters, U.S. Open Championship, The Open Championship (commonly referred to as the British Open) and PGA Championship – draw the elite of the elite professional players.
