Evander Holyfield Makes History... Again!
/PRNewswire/ -- Rocky Balboa couldn't have told a better story than Evander Holyfield. Saturday night, the 47-year-old Holyfield became the oldest man to capture the World Heavyweight Championship, the fifth time in his storied career that the "Real Deal" has captured world title honors. With the crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas chanting, "Holyfield! Holyfield!," the boxing legend stopped Francois Botha with a right hook at 2:05 remaining in the eighth round to become the new WBF World Heavyweight Champion. The knockout win improves Holyfield's career record to 43-10-2, with 28 KOs.
"For me, this win represents the power of faith," Holyfield said. "I wanted to show people that you can win and achieve your goals no matter what because through God all things are possible."
Holyfield also said that he looks forward to bringing renewed attention and excitement to the Heavyweight Division.
The 47-year-old Holyfield was fighting for the first time since December 2008. He has always been known for his innovative, scientifically-based training methods, which have kept his body in peak condition well past the age when most fighters have retired. He soon will be introducing his own line of revolutionary nutritional products to the public to help people look and feel their best.
Next, Holyfield has his sights set on David Haye and the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, who all hold other major versions of the World Title. Following Saturday's victory, Holyfield issued a challenge to settle the score in the ring.
"There's only one world, so there should only be one World Heavyweight Champion," Holyfield said. "I am going to be the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World again."
Holyfield is represented by Womble Carlyle Corporate & Securities/Sports & Entertainment attorney Bernard H. Coleman, Jr.

Governor Perdue Places Friendly Independence Bowl Wager with Governor Rick Perry
Governor Sonny Perdue placed a friendly wager with Texas Governor Rick Perry over the outcome of today’s Independence Bowl game between the University of Georgia Bulldogs and Texas A&M University Aggies.
“In 2007, Governor Perry graciously flew the Georgia flag at the Texas Capitol after the Warner Robins Little Leaguers defeated Texas for the U.S. championship in route to their World Series title,” said Governor Perdue. “Now in the Christmas Season Governor Perry is seeking to redeem himself with another wager. However, I am confident that Coach Richt and the Bulldogs will deliver for Georgia and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.”
In the spirit of friendly competition both Governors agreed to wager food supplies for a local food pantry. When Georgia defeats Texas A&M, Governor Perdue will donate the winnings to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
Governor Perry however had a different take on the outcome of tonight’s game.
“Georgia has a tremendous football program, but they’re going to find out the hard way just why Texas is the center of the football universe,” Gov. Perry said. “As an Aggie myself, you might say I’m biased, but I’ve seen this team grow each week under Coach Sherman, and I know the Aggies will take home a victory and send the Bulldogs back home to Georgia.”
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is located at 732 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd., NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30318. Donations can also be made online at www.acfb.org.
"We are grateful to Governor Perdue, not only for his confidence in our Georgia Bulldogs, but in the his gesture to support our work of helping those most in need,” said Bill Bolling, Executive Director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “We consider this a win-win situation and want to thank both governors for making this a wager that works for everyone."
The Independence Bowl takes place in Shreveport, La. This year’s game begins at 5 p.m. EDT.

Governor Perdue Places Friendly Wager With President George W. Bush on Little League Softball Game
Proceeds will help league offset travel costs for teams’ families
Governor Sonny Perdue and former President George W. Bush today announced a friendly wager on the outcome of tonight’s Little League Softball World Series Championship game. The Warner Robins American Little League (WRALL) softball team faces Crawford Little League at 7 p.m. Eastern Time tonight. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
“These two talented, undefeated teams should put on a great show for fans in both of our states and across the country,” Governor Perdue said. “It’s exciting to have my hometown represented on the world stage like this, and I know President Bush is proud of the girls from Crawford as well.”
"Sonny is a good friend, and I am proud to join him in supporting these two teams and their families,” said President Bush. “Laura and I will follow the championship with great interest, and we will be rooting for a good game and a Crawford victory."
President Bush and Governor Perdue spoke by phone today and agreed to help raise funds to offset the travel costs for the players’ families in Crawford and Warner Robins. They committed to donate $500 each, a total of $1,000, with 60 percent of the total going to the winner’s league and 40 percent to the runner-up’s league. Also, President Bush agreed to co-sign 12 softballs with Governor Perdue for WRALL to auction and raise additional funds.
The WRALL softball team has emerged unscathed through both regional and World Series play with a combined record of 10-0 during the two tournaments.
It has been 50 years since Governor Perdue suited up for the Warner Robins American Little League team. In recent years, the league has become known as a Little League powerhouse. In 2007, the WRALL baseball team won the Little League World Series and successfully defended their Georgia championship last year before falling in the regional tournament. The 2009 squad won the state title for the third year in a row, and on Friday night beat Virginia to secure a place in this year’s World Series.
Little League records indicate that no league has produced baseball and softball champions in the same year. Governor Perdue encouraged Georgians to support both the baseball and softball teams by giving to WRALL. Donations can be sent to WRALL, P.O. Box 6562, Warner Robins, Georgia 31095. For more information on WRALL, visit wrall.org.

HoG’s nonprofit pharmacy provides convenient home delivery of clotting factor and other medications at competitive prices. The agency’s mission states that
Hemophilia of Georgia exists so that people in Georgia affected by bleeding disorders live as normally and productively as possible. Additional information is available online at www.hog.org.
About Hemophilia
Hemophilia is a hereditary genetic disorder in which a person’s blood is not able to clot normally. In normal blood, proteins called clotting factors work together to form a clot whenever bleeding occurs. The person with hemophilia lacks or doesn’t have enough of a certain clotting factor so the blood can’t make a clot. Hemophilia is a very rare disorder, affecting about 17,000 people in the United States. People with hemophilia stop bleeding by taking an injection of the clotting factor that is missing from their blood. However, the clotting factor used to treat hemophilia is very expensive. Some patients reach their lifetime insurance maximum at very young ages.

Cowboy Mouth, which is renowned for engaging fans and creating a truly unique musical performance, will be the headliner the event. Fayette: New Youth Air Rifle Club Sets Open Registration Date
Fayette County Shooting Sports has announced the date of the first parent’s orientation and open registration which will be held on August 8, 2009 at Autrey’s Armory in Fayetteville at 10:00 am. Parent’s interested in learning more about the programs that will be offered for youth’s age 9 to 15 are encouraged to attend this informative session. More information will also be available at www.eteamz.com/fcss.
Fayette County Shooting Sports will offer in its inaugural season a one day basic air rifle safety course and an 8-week Junior Olympic style four position development program.
The basic safety course is tailored to those who have or will soon have an air rifle for home use, but it’s also a pre-requisite for participating in the four position development program.
The four position development program is for those who simply want to improve their marksmanship skills as well as those who want to experience the excitement of air rifle competitions and possibly realize their Olympic dreams.
The club has six USA Shooting Level 1 Coaches, which is the governing body of the nation’s Olympic shooting program.
Although the club is new to Fayette County, Club President Todd Day stated he "would like for everyone to know that the leadership of this club has been working together for years as leaders in the local scout program and as instructors and range safety officers for the ranges at the Boy Scout’s Camp Thunder in Molena, GA. "
Day continued, “We look forward to the opportunity to bring the air rifle program to Fayette County. We spent a lot of time last year at Camp Thunder working with boys from all over this region but at one point we realized that over 30 boys participating in that multi-county program were from right here in Fayette.”
Another reason that Day gave for starting this new program was that it will enable the club to meet more often and to offer those who want to enter the competitive side of the sport a better opportunity to compete with different organizations. It will also open up an opportunity for the girls to compete.
Air Rifle programs have a very safe track record; many clubs advertise that it’s the safest sport a child could sign up for. These clubs also serve a bigger purpose than training future Olympians. The programs teach self discipline, emotional control, concentration, goal setting, teamwork and fair play to name a few life skills. It’s also one of only a few sports that the girls compete against the boys and often win. Strength, size and coordination are often not a measure of success in this program. Desire and work ethic are much more important to success.
For more information, visit the club’s website at www.eteamz.com/fcss.
