According to the Atlanta Track Club, the following road closures will be in effect on Saturday, July 4th, for the running of the Peachtree Road Race.
Start Area Road Closures:
Streets around the start area will close at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4:
• Peachtree Road from Lenox Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road
• Around Lenox Road from Peachtree Road to Lenox Road
• Lenox Road from Peachtree Road to Ferncliff Road
• Buckhead Loop from Peachtree Road to GA 400
• Phipps Boulevard from Buckhead Loop to Wieuca Road
• Wieuca Road from Old Ivy Road to Roxboro Road
• Roxboro Road from Kingsboro Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road
• Pritchard Road from Roxboro Road to Oak Valley Road
• Lakeside Road from Pritchard Road to Kingsboro Road
• Kingsboro Road from Roxboro Road to Lenox Road
• Oak Valley Road from Peachtree Road to E. Paces Ferry Road
• Once the start area is secure, Atlanta Police will begin to close the course through the
finish area.
Finish Area Road Closures:
• 10th Street from Charles Allen to Monroe Dr. will be closed starting on Thursday, July 2
to Saturday, July 4.
• Monroe Drive will close between Virginia Ave. and Kanuga St. at 5 a.m. on Saturday, July
4 and will remain closed until around noon.
• 10th Street from Charles Allen Drive to Monroe Drive will re-open around 3p.m. on July 4

Road Closures for The Peachtree Road Race
Electronic Timing Added for all Participants in the AJC Peachtree Road Race
The Atlanta Track Club, organizer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road
Race, is adding electronic timing for all participants for the 40th edition of the event. Previously, only runners in Time Group One and the seeded waves - approximately 7,500 runners - received timing devices with their race packets. This year, all 55,000 participants will be officially timed.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the event experience for participants in the AJC Peachtree Road Race,” stated Tracey Russell, Executive Director of the Atlanta Track Club. “Providing official timing for all participants will give runners the opportunity to see how they perform in one of the largest road races in the world.”
The light-weight, one-time-use D-Tag attaches to participants’ shoes and is activated when they cross the start line. The ChronoTrack D-Tag system was recently used at the Atlanta Track Club’s other signature event, The Weather Channel Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon, this
past Thanksgiving and was well-received by event participants and race volunteers.
“With an event the size of the Peachtree, using traditional forms of electronic timing wouldn’t work because chip retrieval after the runners cross over the finish line often causes bottlenecks with that high of volume over a short period of time,” commented Jon Hughes, President of Event Marketing and Management International (EMMI), the official timing company of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. “The ChronoTrack D-Tag system eliminates the need to
retrieve the timing devices when runners cross the finish, and we are excited to incorporate this new timing technology into the largest race in the U.S.”
The 40th running of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road race will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2009. The race begins on Peachtree Road by Lenox Square and finishes on 10th Street near Piedmont Park.

Outstanding Designs for ATL Race- Voting Open for Road Race T Shirt
Three of the five finalists chosen for the AJC Peachtree Road Race tee shirt design contest are from the University of West Georgia’s Department of Art.
Three of the five finalists in the AJC Peachtree Road Race tee shirt competition are from the University of West Georgia. The winning design will be determined by popular vote online.
Clint Samples, assistant professor of art, and UWG art education majors Tiffany Spencer of LaGrange and Hannah Lucas of Rome, will compete for the coveted honor of having their original design worn by 55,0000 participants in the Peachtree Road Race on July 4.
All five designs were published in the March 15 Sunday edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and readers can vote for their favorite tee shirt design online at the ajc.com site. Deadline for voting is April 30, but the winning tee shirt design will not be revealed until race day.
The Atlanta Track Club will feature the five designs online as well as the previous years’ designs on its website at http://www.atlantatrackclub.org/. Online registration for the annual race began on March 15.
“We are very excited to say the least,” said Samples. “These were chosen from more than 200 submissions.”
Four finalists will be awarded $100 and the winning artist and design will receive a $1,000 prize. The students submitted their designs as part of an assignment in a Digital Media for Artist class.
