Piedmont Sports and Orthopaedic Surgery Opens in Ellijay

Piedmont Mountainside Welcomes Rodney D. Fields, M.D., to its Medical Staff

Piedmont Mountainside Hospital (PMH) welcomes orthopaedic surgeon Rodney D. Fields, M.D., to its medical staff. On Monday, Sept. 14, Dr. Fields and Piedmont Healthcare opened Piedmont Sports and Orthopaedic Surgery in Ellijay.

“We are thrilled Dr. Fields has decided to join the Piedmont family,” said Mike Robertson, president and CEO of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. “He has extensive experience and knowledge in his field. His expertise and outstanding reputation will be a great addition to the Piedmont Mountainside medical staff.”

Dr. Fields is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon practicing in Ellijay, Ga. He was born in Ohio and attended medical school at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida. He completed his internship and residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

After his residency, Dr. Fields completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center with David Fisher, M.D., who served as a team physician for the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the fellowship, he served a scholarship commitment in the U.S. Air Force as an orthopaedic surgeon for the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base in Langley, Va.

Dr. Fields then resided in Champaign, Ill., where, in addition to his general orthopaedic practice, his duties included team physician for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.

For the past six years Dr. Fields has resided and practiced in Ellijay. His new office, Piedmont Sports and Orthopaedic Surgery, will be temporarily located at 772 Maddox Drive, Suite 116, East Ellijay, GA 30540, until the permanent location opens at 309 Highland Parkway, Suite 200, East Ellijay, GA 30540.
